Defoliation and Basic Cannabis Maintenance
Basic Cannabis Maintenance, Defoliating
Depending on grow style you might be interested in doing some pruning maintenance to improve your results and overall success. Maintenance of cannabis provides a more refined product at the end. Practice makes perfect.
What is Defoliation?
Moving up each branch it is removing at each node new growth, and side branches as far up as desired.
This allows the top layer of leaves and very apical new growth tips to grow more robust.
Why defoliate?
Defoliating will improve your overall growing conditions.
- Airflow through canopy is greatly improved
- Humidity is greatly reduced
- Lowers the risk of powdery mildew
The removal of side growing tips and branches will concentrate nutrients in tips resulting in larger stems. Once in flower, more high quality apical buds will form as the result of the increased nutrients.
Important tips:
Do not let old dry plant matter accumulate in the soil, it can cause pests and is in general bad practice.
You get out what you put in, more in more out, same thing with cannabis.
