Devil’s Claw can be found growing in the deserts of Southern Africa. It is a hardy and low growing ground plant; it stores water and minerals in its root mass and this is where the medicine comes from.

The crushed roots were reportedly used by traditional healers for: joint and bone pain, inflammation, skin ailments, fever and to detoxification of the blood. The European medical field has shown this products effectiveness as a treatment for arthritis, rheumatism and senility.

The active chemicals found in Devils Claw are known as, iridoids, which possess anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic and pain killing properties. These iridoids were discovered to act in the similar ways to steroids, however they have none of the negatives associated to steroid use. Harpagophytum Procumbens does not however contain steroids.
