When to flush your Cannabis plants

When to flush

Flushing is pouring a plain water into your plants soil to remove all the nutrients. Flushing is useful for situations like nutrient lockout or the transition between vegging and flowering, while flushing before harvest can greatly improve the way your bud tastes and the smoothness of the smoke.

Whether the pH level was wrong or you fed your plant too many nutrients your plant may experience nutrient lockout. This means your plant will be unable to absorb nutrients leaving a build up nutrients in the soil. Flushing will remove the excess salts and help fix the pH level allowing your plant to access those nutrients.

Cannabis needs different nutrients during vegging that it needs in flowering, so flushing can reset the soil preparing the plant for a new stage of growth.

Flushing is also used right before harvest to ensure the plant uses nutrients stored within itself, within the final week of its growth. This will improve smoothness and taste. You should begin flushing when the the trichomes are beginning to turn from clear to milky.

How to flush

Flushing cannabis is pretty simple. All you have to do is run normal water (pH level of 6.0-6.8) through your soil or growing medium. You need to run an excessive amount of water through your soil, as much as it can handle. Give it 10 to 15 minutes to completely drain and then repeat the process.
